IBM recently announced the availability of it's enterprise mashup solution, IBM Mashup Center, which will be coming to the market in 2008.

On-Demand mashup - Kapow OnDemand

Kapow Technologiy recently announced industry's first on-demand mashup server "Kapow OnDemand". According to the company source, this solution "will help turn the Web into a personal information service for users".

This solution also comes with excel connector so that user can find and execute Web services that deliver data directly to their spreadsheet. This solution also capable of delivering the data from web to directly into your enterprise application in terms of xml.

OASIS Symposium 2008 - mashup everywhere

The conference went very well with so many great sessions. Nortel presented their idea moving up in value chain by providing communication building blocks so that different solution provider can "mashup" those components to build the solutions.

My presentation and SAP's presentation on mashup in middleware very well accepted. People raised skepticisms about IT politics in enterprise which may not allow mashup to be reality in enterprise context. There are also concerns about bandwidth challenge inside the enterprise when every one creating and using the eneterprise information sources.

OASIS Symposium 2008 - composability within SOA

This will be great event for learning how SOA supports composability.

I am presenting "lightweight" composability using Mashup.

There are two different types of enterprise IT projects in Web 2.0 and SOA : systematic , long term projects which gives conservative reliability, whereas opportunistic, short term projects (or “situational applications”) using "lightweight" compositin of services are for competitive agility. Mashups fit into the later one.

OnDemand Integration – Integration-as-Service

SaaS based applications continue to grow at a staggering rate. According to software market analysts, SaaS represented approximately 5% of business software revenue in 2005 and, by 2011, 25% of new business software will be delivered as SaaS and will grow at a 21% % annual growth rate (CAGR) during the next four years.

As the acceptance and popularity of SaaS applications has continued to rise dramatically, traditional enterprise integration software has become the Achilles heel of the SaaS industry. Additionally, the wide variety of SaaS vendors specializing in different areas has resulted in companies attempting to stitch together information from a number of different places. Traditional integration software products are inconsistent with the values of SaaS in terms of cost, complexity and time to implement. SOA and XML driven application integrations are very well suited for this purpose. But demand will continue to grow for easy to use, manageable, highly scalable on-demand integration.

I will present how this trend relates to enterprise mashup in Ajax World 2008 West.

2008 predictions - big win for enterprise mashup

Different predictions for 2008 enterprise software landscape by Chappell ,Hinchcliffe , Zapthink are highlighting the significant emergence of enterprise mashup in the enterprises.

It is also getting highlighted how mashup governance will be very critical for enterprise IT.

I got a chance again to speak about my "enterprise mashup" framework in another technology conference. I am really glad that they gave me an opportunity to speak about it in front of all the industry and std. leaders. This is going to happen on April 28-30 , 2008 at Santa Clara Marriott.

BEA mashup platform - Genesis

BEA announces product suites for enterprise mashup creation platform. The project name is "Genesis" which also has touch of SaaS.

This product suite has been scheduled to be released on Q2 of 2008.

SOA Grid - ESB as Grid enabler for SOA

ESB can be enabler of SOA Grid. ESB can be used to "gridify" SOA activities - a complete BPEL process , complex event processing or expensive DB transaction. Thus ESB can play a role of SOA computational grid framework.

Designer simply attach annotation to a SOA task and ESB make sure that the task execution will be grid enabled.

2nd day at sys-con conference

Today I presented enterprise mashup with SOA. People were little sceptical about inclination of enterprise user to build their own application. But I guess when current facebook users will join the workforce even as a business user, what we can expect ?

People asked few questions about how to use this technology in conjunction with Portal/Reports. Overall people were liked the idea eve if they are not sure when will be the uptake ?

First day at Sys-con soa conference

First day at the conf was really exciting experience. Talked to very interesting people about very interesting technology.

Particularly , Tibco's Ajax framework was quite impressive. I don't think anything remained to done to provide same user experience in browser as in desktop.

Nexaweb's technology also quite appealing. Good to know that my idea of enterprise mashup is not completely exorbitant.

Eneterprise Mashup usecase ... extending Audi

This is very interesting enterprise mashup usecase featured in WSJ [ tuesday , July 31 , 2007] :

Developers at Audi recently built a mashup that helps product managers for the company's A-series line of autos perform competitive analyses. The mashup draws data from 20 different sources, ranging from Audi's inventory system to demographic figures on German Web site Spiegel Online.

Audi's product managers used to check each of the 20 sources individually and copy the results into spreadsheets. While the task was time consuming and inconvenient, Audi's information-technology department didn't want to pay as much as $500,000 to combine all of the data into one application using traditional software-integration techniques, says Anton Hermann Kramm, a member of Audi's IT management team.

But in my humble opinion this is only 30% of potential what mashups can do in enterprise.

Let's extend this ....

After getting the competitive analysis , product managers need to publish it to their advertisement so that in RSS form. So that they can get the prepare their next campaign well.

Those product managers also wants to update their product requirement database from those feeds automatically but beware about the duplicates.

Some competitive features require really higher attention , a feature approval process need to be started along with discussion board.

There is an interesting vision forming up on combination of grid and SOA - Grid enabled SOA. It is amazing how different architectural concepts are coming together - scalability , performance with loose coupling and standardization.

Mashup creation can be very fun even though at 3 am.... But enterprise mashup is necessity for under staffed IT org ... with "GRID" it can be really nice to have..

Enterprise mashup grid with space based architecture

I managed to get some time and thoughts after a long break. Thoughts are about scalability of enterprise mashup - mashup grid.

Space based architecture [SBA] can be followed to make mashup development platform grid enabled and thus more scalable , available which is MUST for any enterprise ready products. There are few nice blogs from a vendor on SBA.

Mashup grid powered with Functional programming driven declarative mashup development paradigm can be solution for providing a enterprise environment for "Situation application".
